Reading my review of ‘A Winter’s promise’ before the review of ‘The Missing of Clairdelune’ would make it very easy for you to follow my thoughts! (if you still want to proceed and find spoilers of the first book IT IS NOT ON ME)you have been warned….
Can we take a moment to appreciate the title (I feel like that alone is enough of a reason to read this book ). I feel like at this point telling you I was impressed with the cover (again) is just repetitive so I am just going to skip this part- but I think I just did – soo…. ahem-moving on.
For me the comparison with Indian tv shows still holds true, but I felt like the plot was better that the first book(even though it’s a continuation). The entire family tree and and characters were easier to follow and remember. The book had like a mystery plot that was well-written but I felt that it exceeded it’s curiosity-invoking limit.
I especially liked the fact that Lord Farouk (family spirit of The Pole) had a very substantial role because he was given a lot of build-up in the first book. As the story progressed, Farouk’s character was wonderfully developed and given (very much needed) depth.
Ophelia and Thorn did have more interactions in this book as compared to the first one but they were still nowhere near enough (for me). TBH I was still a bit disappointed by thorn except after like 98% of the book(some of you might think me harsh for such a view but hey that’s what I thought). So the bar for Thorn is really very low for me. Ophelia was quite impressive with how she handled a lot of situations.
Her friends Fox(especially him) and Gail were awesome, eccentric and just who Ophelia needed. I still am not very fond of Berenilde (though she was marginally more tolerable).
Ophelia’s great-uncle and brother (Hector) are present ( YIPPEEE!),but again very less(it’s ok, it’s FINE, I’ll live).
On the other hand Archibald’s character(Ambassador of The Pole, member of the clan called Web) was great for mood upliftment. He and Ophelia become good friends (just friends, seriously).
The gist of all this is that I will still continue with the series (there is still hope yet).
Thank you!
