DELVE INTO NOVELS

A blog for those who want to explore the world of novels
powerless

Review : Powerless (Powerless trilogy, #1) by Lauren Roberts, is this book going on my ‘comfort books’ shelf?

“My eyes finally meet his. It’s like looking into a storm.”

“She heaves a shaky breath before meeting my gaze. It’s like drowning in the ocean.”

Did you read the dialogues?? No, like did you READ the dialogues ?!!??! I am writing a blog on ‘Powerless’ after reading it TWICE (that shit says things you know). In the last few books that I’ve read the word powerless was mentioned a LOT, so off course I took it as a sign to read the book (I’m a Bookdragon, everything and anything is a sign for me to pick up a book!!)

The art of picking pockets intrigues me, you are purloined to possessions you keep ON you and you still have no clue that you are being nabbed. I mean we pride ourself on being careful, aware, alert and despite all of that you are still duped. Now this feels personal cause you were present and were still useless (shit who thinks sooo deeply about pick-pocketing, umm….. nevermind).

Our MC Paedyn (Pae) Gray is great!! She is cynical, untrusting, sarcastic, has silver-colored hair, can hold her own in a fight ( SOO freaking hot🔥), is a pick-pocket, is obsessed with Kai’s dimples (aaaaaand added me to her obsession club, I ain’t complaining🤷‍♀️!!) and has GREAT dialogues( this just means that Lauren Roberts did an amazing job!!!!!)

“The king doesn’t need a reason kill, he needs a reason to let people live.” – Pae

NOW I’m gonna go all giddy on THE one and only Malakai (aka. Kai) Azer. I DID NOT know I had a thing for shoulders until I happened upon this fine fictional specimen. I literally just want to grab onto those shoulders and never let go (EVER). I swing between feeling compassion for his character due to his past and and heartburn that he ain’t real(this really really hurts)…

‘She’s made it abundantly clear on what she wishes us to be: competition, enemies and more importantly, why isn’t that what I want as well?’ – Kai

The chemistry they both have is off the charts (the number of times I had to fan myself is no joke). The slow-burn really BURNS. They quarrel, flirt, banter, dance and in general make me feel like a lone french fry on the floor (pathetic, I know, that’s the effect I was going for.)

“Mark my words, prince, I will be your undoing.”

I lean in, ignoring the knife against my throat as I murmur, “Oh, darling, I look forward to it.”

OOK this paragraph might be a very very very very small spoiler( READ AT OWN RISK). There’s this fight scene where they both fight each other, you know, the kind where there is a lot of banter where they are circling each other looking for opening to attack. I SWEAR my soul went to heaven.

Let’s come to our commonly favorite topic: side-characters(woo-hoo!). Adena is Pae’s best friend. You can clearly see from their bond that they’ve survived a lot together. Adena is an aspiring seamstress ( descriptions of the dresses she made really do sound pretty ). Overall liked her a lot..!

Next is Kitt Azer (Kai’s older brother). He is the protected precious heir(who doesn’t like being so😐). What I loved the most is the brothers’ dynamics, it was just soooo wholesome and both of them seemed so in sync with each.

Now to answer to my question, Powerless is DEFINITELY going on my comfort reads shelf (y’all can count on that).

“Too stubborn to ask for my help, Gray? “

“No,” I answer coolly. “Too strong to need it.”

His next words are murmured close to my ear. “That’s what I like to hear.”

Why are you still lurking here??? GO read the book!!!! (You’re welcome!)
